The Word Alive - Empire [2009]

Genre: Metalcore
Website: Myspace
For Fans Of: blessthefall, In Fear and Faith, A Skylit Drive

The Word Alive has pushed through some tough times. For old readers you will remember I was very high on them with Craig Mabbitt as their lead vocalist. After he left Telle took over and, since then, has done a fantastic job. With overall great execution, this album is a 'genre-bender' throughout. Sometimes death metal, sometimes post-hardcore, it really has a lot of it all. EVERY song sounds different, and that is hard to come by in a genre like this. Although the standout track is still the one

Upcoming: The Word Alive - Empires

My favorite upcoming band, The Word Alive, have posted lots of new info on their new upcoming EP. Empires, will drop July 21st and have 6 songs. They have posted the first song on their myspace so check it out!

1. Battle Royale
2. Quit While You're Ahead
3. Casanova Rodeo
4. Inviting Eyes
5. The Only Rule Is That There Are No Rules
6. How To Build An Empire

Since we have already heard How To Build An Empire and Casanova Rodeo (With Craig on vocals) and now this new song, Battle Royale we will only be getting 3 new songs from them. I am totally stoked for this EP. I've been anticipating this ever since I fist discovered them with Craig. I was bummed when Craig left...but I think Telle is fantastic and really takes this band in a fantastic direction. Expect huge things from these guys in the future and make sure to buy their EP when it hits!

The Word Alive - Studio Updates

Dunno if anyone else enjoys studio updates but I'd figure I'd link a few people to them here. I'm excited to hear the new album from The Word Alive. They are one of my favorite upcoming bands. When they lost Craig I thought they would go downhill, but I'm very happy with Telle to be honest.

The Word Alive - EP

I'm pretty sure this was the 5 song EP that The Word Alive had planned to release had Craig Mabbit stayed with them and not jumped ship for Escape The Fate. Its a sad story really. Although their new screamer/singer is alright, there is no way he can compare to Craig's vocals or intensity. Its a shame, The Word Alive, even with 3 songs under their belt was quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. Now I'm sure they will just fall into the vastly growing 'mediocre' pile of music I listen to. Hopefully I'm wrong and pull out something amazing, but I'm not holding my breath. Here is a 5 song EP of what could have been...

The Word Alive - How To Build An Empire

With the departure of Craig Mabbitt (leaving to spend his full time with Escape the Fate...bad choice), The Word Alive has already grabbed another singer, Telle Smith, and put out a new song. While this song is good, it still lacks the intensity that Craig could bring. But I'm not sure how much of that is at the fault of new song or the new singer. I need to see his renditions of Casanova Rodeo and Devil Inside before I can make a call on him. Check it out... let me know what you think of him.

EDIT: I wrote this some months ago. Since then I've decided that Telle is kick ass and I am super pumped for their EP due out in a short while. Check out their studio updates!

The Word Alive - 3 New Songs

The Word Alive is the 2nd band that Craig Mabbitt (ex blessthefall vocalist) is in. Now, as much as I enjoy Craig in Escape The Fate, The Word Alive brings so much more to the table. Craig's main complaint with BTF was that he wasn't able to do songs heavy enough. Not to rag on ETF, but they aren't so heavy either...infact I'd say they were lighter than BTF. That aside, TWA lets Craig sing clean, scream heavy...and the result is very...very impressive.
