Anybody that knows me will know that I absolutely adore Elliott Smith. If you don't know this little bit of information about me then you probably don't know me. Because I do. He didn't write a single bad song. Well, not that I'm aware of. He is arguably the most consistent artist ever, regardless of how my friend qwe feels about Opeth. I think I might stop before I go overboard on the fanboyism, he's quite probably my favourite musical artist of all time, in case you hadn't noticed. It sucks he's dead. Which unfortunately he is. I blame his girlfriend. But shh. I didn't say that. Regardless, this is required listening time. You are required to listen to at least one of these albums. If you don't like it, well, I fear you may not have a soul.

This man was a genius, albeit a very troubled genius, crafting fantastic album after fantastic album. In my opinion XO is Elliott's best album, it combines the stripped down, lo-fi sound of his older records with a more production-heavy sound that just works so well. The sheer catchiness of this is greatly at odds with the very depressing lyrics, which I might add are fantastically well written. I also love his voice, it's really, well thin and almost whispery, I really like it anyway. Really, I don't know what more I can say, to be honest this is just a masterpiece. To the dismay of many Elliott died late in 2003, which really really sucks, he could have done so much more. If I'm honest my description can't really do this album any justice at all, so just listen to it - it's awesome. I promise.
