7 Angels 7 Plagues - Jhazmyne's Lullaby (2001)

Genre: Metalcore
Website: Myspace
For Fans Of: Misery Signals, Skycamefalling, Shai Hulud

7 Angels 7 Plagues were a legendary metalcore band that formed in 1999 and began their career on a somewhat pretentious note by stating that they would redefine the standards of metallic hardcore. Well instead of falling flat on their faces as you might expect being the cynical reader you are, they did just that. They redefined the standards of metallic hardcore. On Jhazmyne's Lullaby they make use of soft-heavy dynamics, with beautiful intertwining dual-guitarwork and an impressive rhythm section, particularly with the drums. There's also a bunch of crushing breakdowns that are always perfectly placed - there's no tasteless abuse of the open strings whenever the band was lacking in creativity. It's just fantastic right up until the last song, the 4 minute long piano outro title track. Yeah, a piano outro. And you know what? It's beautiful. Just beautiful. Check this out if you're a fan of metalcore in general, particularly if you're a Misery Signals fan since some of this band's members went on to form Misery Signals after they split up.
