For Fans Of: Rosetta, Envy, Isis
Post-Metal is a genre that seems to be in the process of rapidly stagnating, an awful lot of bands are just ripping off Isis or Neurosis and really lacking their own sense of creativity. Hell, even Isis are somehow managing to rip themselves off. Thankfully, Year Of No Light are no such band. They're not monotonous and boring, however at the same time don't really play particularly technical stuff. It's fairly simple, based more on ambience and the band's songwriting abilities. They make use of both mellow tracks and more crushing, intense tracks but always building up on what comes before and keeping it interesting. Did I also mention these guys are from France? Yeah, France. I'm not really sure what relevance that has, but I'm just throwing it out there. I feel the only real downside to this album is the length - it falls in at just under an hour long, so if like me you have an almost non-existent attention span you might not be able to get through the whole thing. But regardless, it still rules and is certainly worth your time.
