Defeater are a forward-thinking hardcore band from Massachusetts. What do I mean by forward-thinking? Well, they're not afraid to experiment a bit with the hardcore sound. As you may well know the hardcore scene is becoming somewhat stagnant, just think about - how many hardcore bands are there out there that all sound much the same? Well, I'd bet on quite a few. Defeater, however, are an exception to this. This album just so happens to have a concept. A storyline, vividly telling the story of a man that runs away from home after killing his alcoholic father, only to return to find his mother has passed away from drug-use and managing to get into a conflict with his brother, killing him as well, and finally taking his own life out of grief. Now I don't know about you but that strikes me as some really quite dark lyrical content, something that is only backed by the raging, passionate vocals and crushing instrumentation. In the mood for something happy and cheerful? Probably not the album for you. If not then check this out right now, it rules hard.
