Baroness - Blue Record (2009)

Genre: Progressive Metal
Website: Myspace
For Fans Of: Kylesa, Mastodon, Torche

Fat chicks with fish on the cover. Really, really well drawn/painted/designed fat chicks with fish on the cover, but fat chicks with fish on the cover all the same. How do I feel about this? Pretty fucking awesome. How do I feel about the album itself? Much the same. Baroness have decided to go down a mellower, less ARGH route than on their previous effort (creatively titled Red Album) with a slower, more atmospheric feel that includes lots of noodly guitarwork and interesting experimentation. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that it's not as heavy as their earlier stuff. Well, that wasn't so hard. I really like this change in direction, although I kind of feel they've lost a bit of their identity with it, jumping on the progressive, 'omgcheckoutmyridiculousguitarskills' bandwagon, but whatever, it's still great and I really enjoy it and would highly recommend it.
