Rites of Spring pretty much pioneered the emotive hardcore genre all on their lonesome. Okay, maybe there were some other bands too but these guys pretty much started it all. Not content to be like every other super macho tough guy hardcore band at the time, Guy Picciotto and the rest of the band instead decided to take a more emotional approach to hardcore. You know, with emotions and stuff. Guy even started crying on stage at this one show apparently, dude should've probably manned up or something. I'm totally cool with him being all emotional though since it spawned emo and in turn screamo, the genre I'm somewhat obsessed with currently. Oh, did I also mention Guy and the drummer from Rites of Spring went on to play a key part in none other than Fugazi? Persuasion enough to get this? I think so.
ALBUM: RITES OF SPRING - END ON END
ya rites of spring had a big hand in cementing the early emo sound but i think that embrace and dag nasty were the "first" ones to do it.
