I like my metal how I like my coffee - blacker than death. Except not really. I don't even drink coffee. I just wanted to say that. Also, Collapse isn't really all that black either, what with all the folky sections and bluegrass bits and such. Panopticon is a one-man atmospheric black metal band from Louiseville, USA. Austin Lunn (the man behind Panopticon) describes the whole theme behind this record as such: ‘the basic premise behind Collapse is destruction and rebirth… it documents a fictional uprising and revolution in the wake of economic strife, military occupation and totalitarianism’. And there you have it. Sounds pretty cool I guess. What I love about this is how it combines acoustic and folk elements with the black-metal-ish sections, it's not some stupid cheesy folk-metal blend thing which, let's face it, never really works. I'll be honest with you, I know next to nothing when it comes to black metal, I've never really been into it in the past and it's never really appealed to me all that much so my knowledge of black metal is pretty much non-existence. What I do know, however, is that I enjoyed listening to this and I'm fairly sure that this, to me at least, is all that matters.
