The Appleseed Cast - Mare Vitalis (2000)

Genre: Indie/Emo/Post-Rock
Website: Myspace
For Fans Of: Moving Mountains, American Football, Mineral

The Appleseed Cast play a really engaging blend of post-rock and 90's emo or post-hardcore (or at least they used to anyway, nowadays they're more along the lines of indie post-rocky stuff). The album's title Mare Vitalis is, apparently, latin for "Sea Life", and I get a real ocean kind of vibe from the album - when I listen to it and close my eyes I can see myself soaring over wave after wave stretching off into infinity. Musically the album is fantastic, incredibly soothing and relaxing with beautiful dueling guitarwork along with the vocals over the top that just blend in perfectly with the instrumentation. The drumming is top notch too and I quite honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this. These guys actually really remind me of Moving Mountains, only with more indie/emo bits, akin to American Football or Castevet and all those bands. I actually always put off checking these guys out until recently and as it turns out I love them, so don't make the same mistake I did. Check them out nowwww.
